John R. DeGroate started in the oil business in 1961 by working as a Standard Oil Commissioned Agent in Tinley Park, Illinois. In 1965, John accepted an offer to become a Standard Oil agent in Joliet, Illinois. Standard Oil became AMOCO in 1974.

DeGroate Petroleum was established in 1976 as an Amoco, serving the fuel and lubricant needs of industry, transportation, and agriculture. Located off Interstate 80 at Illinois Route 30 in New Lenox, Illinois, DeGroate Petroleum created jobs and stimulated financial growth over the last two decades. In addition, other nearby communities of Joliet, Plainfield, Channahon, Mokena, Manhattan, Monee, and Kankakee, to name a few, have benefited from this aggressive and growing oil company.

Over the last 20 years, people have come to recognize DeGroate Petroleum's red, white, and blue trucks, criss-crossing these various communities, diligently making deliveries and serving customers.

John had a dream of building a company by hiring reliable and competent employees and supplying his customers with the highest quality products. This vision was imparted to John's son, Scott, President of DeGroate Petroleum.
